fash•ion (fash-uh n) | baby boy

Last week we found out that we are officially having a baby boy.  As much as I wanted a little girl to shop the DVF for Gap Kids collection and would have LOVED dressing a little girl, having a little boy is so exciting.  One night in Paris, Matt and I got into a conversation about apparel dos and don'ts if we have a little boy and I think our list pretty reasonable:
  1. No character apparel - There are a few exceptions to this rule, but I don't think you'll find our little guy in Cars pajamas or Sponge Bob anything.
  2. No overalls - I'm a TRUE believer that kids are the only humans that should ever wear overalls because they're the only ones that could pull them off, but they're just not functional...for anyone.
  3. No items that have sayings - Let's be honest, how many onesies and tees does a baby need that says, "Mommy's #1 guy?"  They're cute and some are hysterical, but just not our thing.
By no means am I totally dogging on kids that wear this stuff.  All children's clothing is absolutely adorable, who doesn't love anything that's mini, but I only have a few years to actually choose what he wears until he starts styling himself...so I'm going to enjoy it while I can.  In the meantime, I dream of putting together fun outfits such as this one for our little baby boy.

Congrats again! It's hard to avoid the animal, car, sports themed thing as that is what people get you :) and the things I like cost a bit more. Can't wait to catch up and hear about your trip.

Congrats! I have two boys and well they broke all your rules. Lol! My boys are little mini's of my hubby and so they basically are styled after him. Comic book tee's and jeans. :)

The nice thing about baby overalls is that they stay up. Sometimes, even with the big ol' diaper booty, it's hard to get pants to stay up on a kid's hiney. But then again, I have a girl, so she has bright, flowery overalls.

Awesome Tab! I love all the items you've picked! Though my friends with kids will tell you about the character stuff, that after a certain age (you are right), you won't have a choice, they practically DEMAND the stuff! And pj's oh pj's. One nephew went over a year of ALWAYS having to wear Toy Story PJ's. Even out to eat! Needless to say he needed like 10 sets of Toy Story pjs. Sorry for the tangent. Can't wait to meet your lil one and see his fashionable outfits!

ok - I find this post REALLY funny. You will have to do a follow up a few months after the baby is born....with a 4 month old, I laughed out loud at the cute hat, suspenders, and beautiful wool sweater.

The character thing - it is easy when they are young, but by 2 they WANT Elmo PJ's and how can you say no?:)
